About Me:
When I saw the complex programs that are used to create animation it gave me hope.
I realize that this is maybe an odd response, but I had just spent the past four years as a Submarine Sonar Technician. The US Navy uses custom software to operate it’s sonar systems and the company that makes that software contractually releases major updates to that software every few years. During my tour of duty, I had to relearn how to use my own equipment three separate times, so when I saw just how complex Maya was I had my “I can do this too” moment. I downloaded the student version of Maya and set about teaching myself, learning after work in port and after watch at sea. I took my laptop on a 6 month pacific deployment, and applied to college. College gave me a broader understanding of artistic concepts and allowed me to try things that I never would have thought about exploring. I learned I loved sculpture and started to focus on the asset creation sections of the animation pipeline, and getting to pick the minds of my professors was a privilege.
I think my background of military service and experience with traditional sculpture gives me a fairly unique perspective that I hope to leverage as an enthusiastic member of a creative team. I may not have industry experience but I am very familiar with working under tight deadlines as well as working within and at the head of groups. Submarines are a tight knit community by necessity as much as anything else, there isn’t enough space for big egos or subpar workmanship which leads to a level of respect that I think is unique in the armed service and I look forward to bringing that energy and respect to you.
